As part of our work establishing learning environments in which children can thrive, we supported community school building and renovation efforts in one school in 2024 and a farming programme in two primary schools where maize is grown to feed the children of Standard I, II, and Pre primary at Singino and Mnaida.  In 2024 a primary school was completely renovated, meaning 343 children and 9 teachers were able to come back to a working school building. We also provided a daily meal to 42 deaf children at Rahaleo Primary School so that they could make the most of their education.

Highlights

To improve children’s health and wellbeing and encourage regular school attendance new latrines, a rainwater harvesting system and new handwashing devices were built. New learning resources such as a computer, books, blackboards and chalk were provided.

The ‘Farm to feed’ project ensures children are able to stay in school all day, as they do not need to return home for lunch. Attendance rates improved this year from 90% to 95%, which headteachers attribute to the feeding programme.
