Legacies

Making a Will is an essential task that we should all consider, as it’s the only way to ensure that your loved ones are cared for, and your wishes are made clear after you’re gone.

It’s well-known that charities rely on donations to enable them to carry out their work, but leaving a gift to charity in your Will is one of the less familiar ways of showing your support. Gifts in Wills are a vital source of income for many charities and can create a lasting legacy for both the donor and the charity they have chosen to support.

After you have ensured that your loved ones will be taken care of, you may wish to consider leaving a gift to charity to pass something on for future generations.

There are many benefits to leaving a gift in your Will:

  • You can use your gift as a way of remembering a loved one and honouring their memory
  • It’s a way of helping to ensure that the work of the charity which you support will live on
  • Gifts left to charity are tax-free
  • If you choose to leave more than 10% of your estate to charity, then the overall amount of inheritance tax you have to pay will reduce from 40% to 36%

Any gift you choose to make can be as large or as small as you like. Every single gift makes a big difference and will be gratefully received.

How Will the Gift of Education help EdUKaid?

Our mission is to make lasting changes by improving the provision and quality of education in the developing world because we believe that to learn is to live.

Our core activities are entirely funded by donations, every penny of which goes into our work. We are a small charity with small overheads, so every donation we receive makes a big impact.

Leaving the gift of education in your Will would have a lasting impact on the lives of the children we work with, creating an enduring legacy for both them and you.

How Do I Leave a Gift in my Will?

Including a gift in your Will is very straightforward. There are a few things you’ll need to know first:

  1. The full name and details of the charity to ensure the gift reaches its destination
  2. The type of gift you would like to leave
  3. The amount you would like to leave

Should you wish to leave a gift to EdUKaid, our details are as follows:

There are two different types of gift you can choose from: residuary gifts or pecuniary gifts.

Once you have decided which type of gift to leave and the size of gift you would prefer, you will need to contact a solicitor to have your Will drawn up or adjusted (if you already have a Will). If you don’t have a solicitor, you can find one by contacting the Law Society.

Do I Need To Let You Know?

You can notify us if you have included a gift in your will for EdUKaid, or if you intend to and would like to ensure the money is used for a specific purpose. We would be happy to accommodate your wishes if you make them known to us.

Alternatively, you don’t need to let us know if you would prefer not to.

Please consider leaving the gift of education in your Will.
