Funded through a 2 year grant from the British and Foreign Schools Society, we launched our new Pre-primary Improvement Project fin January 2021.

Child-centred education

Modelled on our successful pre-primary classes and delivered by our experienced team, the new Project has trained 174 government teachers across 87 schools in the Mtwara District to deliver an equitable, child-centred, play-focused early years education based on the Montessori approach.

Working with parents and members of the local communities, the project has supported schools to create stimulating, age appropriate classroom environments and resources using locally sourced and freely available materials and train parent volunteers to support classroom activities.

Delivering impressive results

Since 2021, this project has provided over 8,000 of the most disadvantaged children with the the basic skills they need at pre-primary level to improve school readiness and learning outcomes so that they have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.  As a result, the number of children successfully transitioning to primary school has almost doubled!
